Nkwali Lodge

Nkwali Camp is located on Robin's private land, overlooking the National Park.  The land is superb gameviewing country, with a beautiful area of ebony woodland and open grass plains. Elephants often cross the Luangwa, seen from the bar, or come to the waterhole near the thatched dining room.

Accommodation for 12 guests in cool and spacious chalets, each with a view of the river.  Throughout the year we have direct access to the park by boat. The area is famous for leopard and giraffe sightings.

Open all year.

Tena Tena

The Times, London has rated Tena Tena Camp "altogether beyond superlatives.. one of the best safari camps in the whole of Africa."  This remote and small camp lies within the Nsefu Sector of the National Park and enjoys a stunning location on a wide bend of the Luangwa River.  A grove of mahogany trees shade the large custom-made tents and open air bathrooms. From the thatched dining room and bar, guests can watch the elephants, hippo and antelope on the river banks.  The spectacular Buca Buca lagoon is nearby, where a whole morning can be spent quietly watching game come down to feed and drink.  Because of the remoteness Tena Tena guests have these scenes to themselves.
Accommodates 10 guests in luxury tents under thatch

open late May to end Oct

Nsefu

Nsefu Camp lies on a sweeping bend of the river, 12 kilometres north of Tena Tena. Nsefu was the first game camp in Zambia and dates back to the early fifties. The view of the river is superb and includes a terraced area where game grazes during the day.  The bar, tucked in beside a huge dormant termite mound, overlooks a waterhole that is very productive for game, especially leopard at night.  The original rondavels have been extended, with a spacious bathroom added.  Each room has a clear view of the river, through large windows and from the new wooden veranda.

Walking Safaris

Robin Pope's Walking Mobile Safaris start with 2 days at Nkwali Camp.  You then drive north to the Mupamadizi river for five days of walking covering approximately 10km a day.  The trek will follow this clear river which is a major tributary of the Luangwa.   The area is remote and wild, the terrain and habitats varied and the game shy and unused to man.  From ants to buffalo, a bird's nest to tracking a lion, you will learn the many facets of the bush.  The fully serviced mobile camp is extremely comfortable and well-equipped with walk-in tents and full bedding.  The shower is under a tree and the toilet is a bush loo with a wooden throne. Meals of a high standard are served under the open sky. Your safari will conclude with three nights at Tena Tena or Nsefu

Bush Camps

Luangwa Bush Camping is a 2-night walk between Tena Tena and Nsefu for a couple of days, camping in stand up tents, mattresses on the ground, sheets and blankets, wash basin, shared  ucket shower, bush loo, full bar and food service. The walking is in a lagoon rich area and game is superb. Debs Tittle, one of Zambia’s best, is the guide and host.

Palm Grove Bush Camping takes place in an area recently explored by Robin  – the  dry river bed of the Mushilashi River. There is a huge palm grove in the middle of the bush and the camp is under evergreen trees on an island in middle of the river bed, surrounded by white sand. This is a wilderness experience with rigorous walking in a wild area where game is sparse and very shy. This is arranged ad hoc.

Safari Houses in Luangwa

For groups or families, private safari houses offer a unique experience.

Robin’s House is ideal for families, honeymooners and guests looking for a little privacy.   Set apart from Nkwali camp the house has an amazing view of the Luangwa river and the animals that come down to drink.  It is under a grove of large trees and is well shaded.
